Garden Mosaics
Youth learn from the local knowledge of elder, urban community gardeners and farmers, and from science resources produced at Cornell University. The i·m·science investigations and other activities integrate science learning, multicultural understanding, intergenerational mentoring, and community action. Our experience working in diverse immigrant and minority communities in the US led to international work, in which we are integrating local and scientific knowledge into youth education programs. During summer 2005, two Cornell graduate students adapted the Garden Mosaics activities for use in South African township schools.
Major Collaborators: Keith Tidball, Cornell University; Gretchen Ferenz, Cornell Cooperative Extension-NYC; Kendra Liddicoat, Alexey Kudryavtsev, and Jamila Simon, Cornell University.
